I have spoken to a few people about this - a local race to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, starting from the top of Helsby Hill and finishing on the playing fields behind the Robin Hood
Anyway, I was thinking do we want to do a reccy tonight as a muster run, so we can look at the logistics and understand the timing

Re: mustering - depends on the weather, precipitation may preclude any significant hanging around tonight!
Are you on about a straight downhill?
Wouldn't anything involving crossing Chester Road near the end be problematic with council/police? Perhaps a finish at the bottom of the quarry would be more likely to get the go-ahead.
In general though, it might be difficult to arrange anything around a bank holiday as many people will take the opportunity to go away.
Sorry if I sound negative, must be because I'm an accountant!

Hi Ed,
The route would be Helsby Hill to Frodsham Hill and then down via Middle Walk coming out on the A56 by the High School, over the footbridge and then the pavements - let's see if it works

We did. I believe it came out at 6 miles measuring from the top of the Hill to Robin Hood, but perhaps a little difficult for anyone other than club or serious runners. It was a nice run though, and I think we should do it regularly as an alternative to the normal club run. Anyone after a slightly longer run could do the hill a second time on the way back. Thanks Phil.

I've been chatting to a few people about last night's Diamond Jubilee recee and I've been inundated with requests from local couch potatoes just dying to flex their dormant running muscles over the course with a growing clamour for it to be a minimum of 2 laps, possibly with some sort of additional challenge like carrying a one hundredweight sack of coal around the course as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(That was a joke by the way!)

Today's headlines - see below - are just a smoke screen for the newly wed royals to train up for the race
Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to cut down royal duties
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to cut down on their royal duties - partly to avoid overshadowing the Queen ahead of her Diamond Jubilee year.
The newly-married couple have just returned from a high-profile tour of Canada and the US but will take on few engagements this autumn and winter.
William and Kate were now mindful that the Queen "quite rightly should be in the spotlight", a spokesman said.
