yeah as i'll be starting at Helsby and heading to Frodsham next it's a choice between heading onto the road first to hit the sandstone trail and then along up Jacobs to the top, or to do part of the summer run and woodhouse that way, not sure they'll be much in it, but coming back I reckon follow the road on the half marathon route to alvanley back to helsby, I'll plump for 2.15 or sub

Hello All,
Just mapped my "3 Peaks" route and it comes out at 14.7 miles (1850 ft asc) Might be able to cut a few corners once I've given it a run thru. Going as the crow flys in some parts I can get it down to 13.8 (1725ft asc) but that's reliant on that terrain being actually runnable.
I'll give it ago in the next few weeks if no one minds.
Cgheers Chris.

Made my 2nd attempt at the 3 peaks today. Put in a bit more effort than on the first steady trial run. Also found a slightly more direct route (15.15 miles). Started from top of Helsby Hill this time. Time recorded was 2 hours 8 mins 28 secs. Still scope for improvement though with delays caused by a slight navigational error on return to Helsby in the depths of Delamere Forest. Plus a short stop to put on waterproof when the heavens opened for 10 minutes.

Nice one Ian. This idea's gathering pace! Go for it Chris, let us know how you get on. There's also a bunch of people meet in the forest www.delamerespartans.org.uk/ keen to give it a go. I mentioned it on twitter and their Spartan ears pricked up. Some swift times to come from there I reckon.

Just done a recce of part of my route and it wasn't good, too twisty, turny, rough and muddy. My big corner cut isn't viable either.
Ran back a different way and that was more promising.
A couple more dodgy bits need looking at before a full run through.
Got a few races lined up so might be a couple of week before I hit it hard.

Steve
Ever ran with the Spartans? When I marshalled Sandstone Trail a runner (not on the race) stopped and was telling me he'd heard of someone like that, but thought they were called Norley Nomads or something and couldn't remember the name, so I never found them.

I'm currently well off Ian's pace, but will probably recce a new route next weekend and then attempt a good effort shortly after that
ps had a go the other week and ended up being out for 3 hours although that did include a stop to pick some blackcurrents as was in dire need of sustenance

Out on the bike this morning and came across Spartan Steve on a Three Peaks outing. He was running hard near Alvanley towards Helsby Hill. At a guess I reckon he's about Ian's pace, he's going to let us know how he gets on...
I managed to slow him down by about 30 seconds keeping him chatting ;-)
Ed - no, never run with the Spartans but they're picking up lots of new members. Tuesday nights in the woods I think. Quite a few of them on the Sandstone in May and doing the Deeside version soon.

Hi All,
Had a crack at the 3 Peaks today.
Starting at the Frodsham Monument and going anti-clockwise.
Made some terrible and very costly route mistakes in Delamere and they cost me a sub 2 hour time.
2:02:48.94
Frodsham to Helsby Hill - 2.31 miles (2.31) - 21:09.80 (21:09.80)
Helsby to Eddisbury Hill - 6.54 miles (8.85) - 52.00.64 (1.13.10.44)
Eddisbury to Frodsham - 6.67 miles (15.52) - 49.37.70 (2.02.48.94)
Checked route and with some tinkering I think I've got the distance down to 14.66, that's over 1/2 mile and at least 4 minutes.

Superb work Chris. Good time that ...someone's going to be gunning for sub-2 now surely?

Good running Chris I don't think it will be too long before the 2 hour barrier is broken.
It's funny how despite running round Delamere loads of times it's still very easy to take a wrong turn.
Ian
